Movsum (b. 1998) is a digital artist who translates the rhythm and movement of hip-hop freestyle dance into geometric, line-based abstraction.,Since turning to digital art during the COVID-19 pandemic,he has drawn on modernist and 20th-century avant-garde aesthetics,,as well as on architecture, sneaker culture, and the music of J Dilla.
Movsum's shift to digital art began during a career crisis in freestyle dance brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, when a photograph of a building's reflection recalled the colors and lines of his dancing. He taught himself Adobe Illustrator and Procreate and began sharing his work online, drawing further inspiration from the painter Wassily Kandinsky. A collaboration offer from the artist Jesperish later placed his work in the 1OF1 collection, an event Movsum has described as an early recognition of his practice.The two artists collaborated again in 2026,and Movsum has also worked with Kolahon, Leonardo Faganello, and Rich Caldwell.
Movsum treats the computer as an active participant in his process rather than a passive tool, describing his practice as a dialogue between artist and machine.This idea recurs across a series of works that cast the computer as a subject in its own right, including My computer studies Roy Lichtenstein's brushstroke and Coffee on black, both released on SuperRare.,In Running in a Routine, he examines how everyday objects such as fashion items and coffee shape daily routines and societal norms.He has also released Pepe-themed work, including Notable Pepes, and editions through 6529's Meme Card program.Movsum staged a solo exhibition, “Pepehaus”, at Ninfa in Milan in 2024,and his work was shown the previous year at “Gateway Miami”, a group exhibition hosted by Christie's during Art Basel Miami.
