Mindeye is the name under which Veronika Pell, a multidisciplinary artist, works with generative AI. She makes video art with a strong emphasis on sound, digital image series and short films, from a position rooted in cinema. Her work operates in the register of dark fairytale, with playfulness, absurdity and theatrical excess.
Pell is based in Helsinki and is originally from Uzbekistan. She trained in film direction in Moscow before moving into contemporary art and AI-based practice. Her work often centres female figures and treats transformation as a continuous condition. She describes her process as “growing imagery”, a recursive practice in which works feed into each other across extended cycles. One series made entirely in Midjourney used what she calls “growing an image”, a technique that takes patience and many iterations. She believes that everything humans create is part of nature, and that over time the division between the artificial and the natural may become less distinct.
