Mind Wank is the pseudonym of a visual artist who uses artificial intelligence to generate imagery that is eerie, darkly comic, and often emotionally raw, working across stills and video. His work — distorted figures, uncanny domestic scenes, glitch-infused text — explores “the broken poetry of modern life and the blurred line between memory, fiction, and digital decay”.
Mind Wank came of age in the early days of AOL, dial-up modems and chat rooms filled with anonymous strangers.He joined Fellowship's Daily program in 2023 and went on to produce more than a thousand works.Among them is the satirical series BAD JPEGs, which imagines what AI-generated imagery would look like if prompted on the aesthetics of the early internet. Released in June 2024 in place of the expiring Fellowship Patron Pass, the series embraces compression artifacts and low-fidelity visuals, turning fragments of emojis and memes into crude, decaying vignettes that critique the polished, influencer-driven character of internet culture.He is also a co-creator of AI OR DIE, an AI comedy trio.
In 2025 Mind Wank exhibited in Galerie Met's group show “Synthetic Realities: Authenticity in the Age of AI Imagery” in Berlin, alongside artists including Chen Zirui, icysaw and Lilan Yang. For the show he presented Witness, which confronts the hunger of the image economy for smiles and selfies, using collective trauma as a backdrop for self-aggrandizement in an endless cycle of doom-scrolling.A further series, Trauma Influencers, was released alongside it through Met Digital in February 2026.He also took part in “PSYCHOPOMP! Follow the Unconscious”, curated by Boris Eldagsen at the Inside Out Centre for the Arts in Johannesburg, which inaugurated the Roger Ballen Centre for Photographic Arts.
His video work has also picked up awards on the festival circuit: You Are, Unfortunately, an A.I. Artist received the Best Narrative award at the Non Fungible Conference in Lisbon in 2024. Newt won an Outstanding Achievement Award for Mockumentary/Docucomedy Short at the IndieX Film Festival in Los Angeles that same year.
