Mind Mechanic, known as MM, is a pseudonymous artist who describes their practice as that of a Psychiartist, combining a professional background in psychiatry and neurology with art. Their work explores the human psyche through what they call chromatic allegory, using color theory and symbolism drawn from literature, philosophy, and clinical psychology to create images about the human condition.
In Alter Ego, a figure is partially veiled by a yellow square that stands for the ego, so that her outward gaze and obscured identity sit in tension.Who's a good girl shows a woman with her face covered by a yellow cloth and a pink leash tied to her ponytail. Mind Mechanic has connected the image to the silencing effects of cancel culture, and, in an alternate reading, to the suppression of women's voices under societal expectation.The Fine Line centers on a woman facing a wall, her yellow shirt and red pants standing for hope and passion, as she confronts the tension between belief and delusion and between confidence and arrogance.The series The Weight of Almost comprises seven works exploring psychological and emotional states as observed, and misunderstood, by artificial intelligence, moving from dependency to memory to silence and ending in a fragile coexistence.
