Michael Wessel is a multidisciplinary artist with a background in publishing, photography and writing whose practice spans physical and digital abstract art, animation and glitch. He worked as a photographer, shooting product, food, people and events for a Milwaukee print magazine, before moving into fashion and beauty photography for agencies in Minneapolis and Los Angeles. He later took up drawing and painting, and in 2021 began working with NFTs.
During the 2020-2022 crypto boom he partnered with a technology specialist to create Xob, a virtual gallery and event space on the metaverse platform Voxels, staging eight shows that featured close to 100 artists over the course of a year and sold about $40,000 in art. In 2023 he organized the tenth edition of his recurring metaverse exhibition “LFG!!! 2023”, bringing together a group of NFT artists to show new work in a virtual gallery. That same year he also organized “Stoner Stick People 4/20 Celebration Sesh”, a community event bringing together artists to celebrate art on the 4/20 holiday.
