Mathcastles is an anonymous two-person studio that makes generative, fully on-chain art, with one member working under the name 113.In December 2021 the studio released Terraforms on Ethereum, an 11,104-part work whose parcels together form a diamond-shaped architecture known as the Hypercastle.,Terraforms is programmed to slowly decay, its code set to unwind over the next 10,000 years.
Rather than supply tools to visualize the full Hypercastle, the studio left interpretation of Terraforms' three-dimensional structure to its community of collectors. 113 has described that structure as “non-visual”, unrendered, and “an abstract reinterpretable skeleton”. Community members subsequently built independent tools to visualize the on-chain data on their own terms.
At “Uncomputer”, a 2023 exhibition Unit London staged at Frieze London, Mathcastles showed a zero-knowledge artwork built with zk-SNARKs that proves cryptographically that a set of secret drawings exist without ever revealing them.In November 2025 the studio's work appeared in “Blockchain Native”, a four-year survey of on-chain art that was the main exhibition at Outliers, the first digital art section of the Abu Dhabi Art Fair.The artist Jan Robert Leegte later cited Terraforms as proof that a network could exist within a smart contract, drawing on it as an influence for his own generative work.
