Mate Steinforth is a Berlin-based artist, creative director, and independent researcher working at the intersection of visual culture and digital technology. His practice spans motion design and animation, spatially aware augmented-reality installations, and interface systems that use real-time interaction design and low-level hardware programming. Steinforth holds a Diploma in Graphic Design from HAWK Hildesheim, with additional studies in philosophy, English, and fine arts.
Steinforth established and led the Berlin studio of Sehsucht, an animation house recognised for its work in motion design and visual storytelling, and served as Creative Director at PSYOP in New York, directing international campaigns. His campaign work for Nike earned an ADC Bronze award and a Webby Award honoree distinction, and his interstitials for MTV aired globally.As founder of BetaBeta, his creative lab for augmented reality, Steinforth made Instagram face filters that reimagine everyday technology, including swipe gestures translated onto a person's face and cascades of blue-screen Windows error messages.,,
Steinforth directed the mixed-media animated film Amazon for Nestlé's Optifibre, produced by Troublemakers in collaboration with Ogilvy & Mather Paris and broadcast on major television channels.Steinforth's work was included in “The Second Sense”, a screening of digital animation and moving image at Post Territory Ujeongguk in Seoul, alongside artists such as David OReilly and Raven Kwok.
