Martina Menegon (Italian, b. 1988) is an artist, curator, and educator based in Vienna who works across 3D scanning, augmented reality, and interactive simulation to explore digital embodiment.Her self-portraits treat her own scanned body as raw material, using glitch as a method to reshape identity and question the limits of physical and virtual selfhood.,
In 2016 Menegon began Virtual Narcissism, a series of virtual sculptures made by scanning her own body with low-budget 3D scanners to explore selfies, intimacy, and identity in a digital era.Her 2020 piece when you are close to me I shiver, shown in the group exhibition “FEELINGS” at Synthesis Gallery, imagines a dystopian future after a socio-ecological crisis through raw, evocative visuals.untouched, an ongoing series begun in 2021, presents unaltered 3D scans of herself as online virtual sculptures and augmented-reality works, some released as NFT editions.one last click and i'll be gone, from 2022, uses a live simulation that generates a new clone of her scanned body with every mouse click, producing self-portraits shaped by her own cursor movements while she works.Her 2023 self-portrait I am but an uneven terrain continues this use of 3D scanning and glitch to present identity as a shifting, hybrid terrain rather than a fixed image.
Menegon studied visual and performing arts at IUAV University in Venice before completing a diploma in Transmedia Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna.She taught multimedia arts at IUAV from 2011 to 2021 and later became a Senior Artist and Lecturer in the Transmedia Art department at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, where she is also a PhD researcher in a joint program with Johannes Kepler University Linz.,In 2019 she founded the curatorial platform /afk, producing solo exhibitions in Vienna, and went on to direct the Uncanny Reality Festival in 2021 and serve as Vice Director and Curator of Vienna's CIVA Festival for New Media Art from 2021 to 2023.Her work has been shown at institutions including MAK – Museum of Applied Arts Vienna and Les Rencontres d'Arles, and in 2025 was included in the group exhibition “The Second-Guess. Body Anxiety in the Age of AI” at HEK Basel.,In 2024 she was one of ten artists nominated for the Museum of the Moving Image's Schlosser Media Wall public vote.
