Marterium, the pseudonym of the German artist Markus Kanzler, makes 3D motion sculptures that treat form and color as distinct languages. He translates abstract concepts into compositions, treating digital art as a collaboration between humans and machines. Kanzler had trained in psychology before turning to 3D art, launching Marterium in 2019 and entering cryptoart in 2020.
His personal project series Mentis Abstractae, begun in 2020, revisits new techniques, colors and materials each installment. Other works include Fluctu Animo, cloth sculptures suspended in mid-air that evoke the wandering of thoughts, emotions and dreams. Vitrucolor explores glass and the colors produced by refracted light. Mundus Particula combines particle simulation with organic sculpting. He has made commissioned work for clients including Apple, Zedd and PayPal.
