Marterium, the pseudonym of the German artist Markus Kanzler, makes 3D motion sculptures that treat form and color as distinct languages.,He translates abstract concepts into compositions, treating digital art as a collaboration between humans and machines. Kanzler had trained in psychology before turning to 3D art, launching Marterium in 2019 and entering cryptoart in 2020.
His personal project series Mentis Abstractae, begun in 2020, revisits new techniques, colors and materials each installment. Other works include Fluctu Animo, cloth sculptures suspended in mid-air that evoke the wandering of thoughts, emotions and dreams. Vitrucolor explores glass and the colors produced by refracted light. Mundus Particula combines particle simulation with organic sculpting.He has made commissioned work for clients including Apple, Zedd and PayPal.,
In 2025 he was selected as one of 16 artists for ASTROPOETICON, a multimedia tribute marking the 100th birthday of Herbert W. Franke. The project narrated 16 space poems Franke wrote in 1979 and invited generative artists worldwide, among them Joshua Davis, to each transform one poem into an immersive multimedia work. In his own words, “I'm deeply honored to be one of just 16 artists chosen for ASTROPOETICON, giving me the chance to visually interpret one of Herbert W. Franke's poems.”
