Mario Carrillo is a Mexican computational artist and creative coder based in Culiacán, Mexico, who works with code, graphics and generative systems to create animations that explore geometry, light, motion and perception.,He describes himself as a “Crypto-Op artist”, for whom “numbers transcend units — they create the shapes, motion, and color we interact with.”
Carrillo has kept a daily generative art practice, sharing the results on Instagram as both a creative habit and research toward future works.He is also active in the creative coding community, publishing open-source WebGL and Three.js tutorials on platforms including Codrops and GitHub Universe.He is listed as an artist on Art Blocks, the generative art platform.
Carrillo served as Bright Moments' artist in residence in Mexico City around the 2022 NFT Art CDMX event, part of the collective's series of live-minting residencies in different cities.For Max Cooper's immersive live show Seme, commissioned by the Salzburg Easter Festival, Carrillo made the official music video Cardano Circles, referencing Gerolamo Cardano's 16th-century geometric system for turning straight lines into circles. In 2024, with collaborators Bawny and Kikillo, his work was displayed as a stage set during the FerxxoCalipsis tour.
Load Gallery represents Carrillo and included him in its 2024 group exhibition “Unity in Variety”, showing unique, single-edition video works made in JavaScript and GLSL such as Atom Fusion and Stellar.,
