Marcel Muntyanu is a Los Angeles-based digital artist who prioritizes aesthetic appeal over meaning, working across digital readymades, fairy tales, and surrealism. His practice also spans novels and short surreal stories, exploring artificial creation methods and the conceptual interaction between digital objects.
Muntyanu began writing fairytale-inspired surreal stories with unexpected endings, winning contests in city newspapers. During university he kept detailed records of moments spent with friends, from sunrises to numbered lighters, a habit he says deeply influenced his love for art. After living through the coronavirus pandemic and war, and moving between countries, he settled in Los Angeles, where he found what he calls a renewed sense of beauty and purpose in aesthetics.
He has also created a collaborative fashion collection that reimagines the work of favorite artists as fashion, presenting them as MetaHuman models.The series Digital Couture pairs his own pieces with collaborators including Martina Menegon, Kika Nicolela, Sky Goodman, and Olga Fedorova, released as editions on Tezos. Other works include the Clockwork Dreams series and the 1/1 piece Deco.Muntyanu was also credited as artist and curator of the “OnlyAesthetic Digital Art Auction”, an exhibition built around the idea of aesthetics prevailing over meaning.
