Marc Maurer is a Kazakhstani generative artist whose practice moves between digital and physical processes, guided by a background in abstract art and graffiti.,His work explores how color and form take shape through systems made with generative adversarial networks, P5.js code, and a pen plotter.He lives and works in Karaganda, Kazakhstan.
Maurer's process began with pixel sorting and machine learning models such as StyleGAN, which later led him to algorithmic approaches that produce bright, dynamic compositions with random elements. He first explored these techniques in the pixel-sorting series F0B0S, minted on Teia in March 2022, and the StyleGAN color-field series Neptunus, minted on OBJKT later that year. Influenced by traditional artists such as Gerhard Richter, Maurer's work embraces the ambiguity and energy of abstraction, seeking a balance between chaos and order through experimentation that channels intuition. In the series Glance, symmetrical, noise-based drawings evoke Rorschach tests used in psychological evaluation, their ambiguous forms inviting viewers to project their own emotions onto the work.Through warm color palettes and softened pixelation, works such as Glance #12, from 2024, explore a tension between digital oversaturation and a longing for a more organic existence.“Modernity has separated us from the pure and authentic world that exists around us”, Maurer wrote of the series in 2024.
Maurer's plotter drawings were shown alongside Lenia Mascha's work in “Interlace” at Galerie Data in Paris, from November 22 to December 7, 2024, a duo show centered on multi-colored, layered plotter drawings whose texture evokes weaving.,In July 2025 he took part in “Forged in Data”, a group exhibition curated by Forgio and Galerie Data in Cannes, where his Glance drawings were shown alongside new bronze, ceramic, and wood sculptures by other participating artists.,He also exhibited in “New Retinas” at ARTLAB Siroco in Madrid in December 2025.
