Manuel Lariño is a Spanish-American generative artist, born in A Coruña, Spain to American and Spanish parents, who writes code that models natural systems, such as rainfall, tides and time, as a way of tying digital art back to the physical world.He trained as an illustrator, working with magazines and publishers including Esquire and Paste, before turning to generative art built from internal logics inspired by environmental cycles.,
Lariño graduated with honors in Fine Arts from the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, and studied illustration at the Joe Kubert School in Dover, New Jersey.His first long-form generative collection, Forecast, released on Art Blocks in 2023,simulates a weather forecast, modeling barometric pressure and humidity to determine where rain falls across the canvas, as an abstract meditation on the Galician language's rich vocabulary for rain.Infinite Tide, a 2025 work shown on a small custom screen, draws its data directly from the tide gauge at the port of A Coruña, so that the density of its drawn lines rises and falls with the real tides of the city where Lariño was born.
For Gift of Time, made during an Art Blocks and OpenSea artist residency in Marfa, Texas and shown there in a solo exhibition in 2025, he made a 365-iteration collection whose elastic, connecting lines evolve continuously according to mechanical cycles, calendars and lunar phases, never resetting to a fixed state.,Broken Dreams, shown at The Generative Art Museum and Art Blocks' Responsive Dreams festival in Barcelona in 2025, reads Ethereum's block data directly, so that each piece evolves almost imperceptibly with every new block.,
