manta_timing is a Los Angeles-based artist who moved from painting and music into a digital practice spanning GIF, video, AI-generated imagery, and 3D sculpture. Working through the visual grammars of CG, anime, and internet image culture, he returns repeatedly to the body — multiplied, fragmented, and slightly wrong.
He began working under the name manta_timing in early 2025, initially posting short, vertically framed music videos of about fifteen seconds to Instagram Reels before AI tools pulled him toward a broader digital practice. Encountering the experimental work being made on Twitter pushed him to treat the practice as more than a side project, and he was introduced to Tezos by the artist R.J., who helped him understand the scene and supported his first collection. His process typically starts from a collage reference, which he turns into an AI-generated image, converts into a 3D model, and re-generates and animates selected frames into a GIF. He treats painting, digital work, AI, music, and sculpture as a single expressive continuum, and has said that “craft alone does not produce good art; taste does”.
His series that feeling, released on objkt.one as part of the exhibition “Context Collapse” in Los Angeles, comprises seven GIFs of fragmented faces and bodies performing everyday gestures in abrupt loops, examining a shared unease he has described as “a drop of excitement and glee” amid the performance of normalcy in an unstable present.Earlier drops on objkt and VVV.so include Cold Call, Puppy Love, and Bonfire of the Vanities, released between 2025 and 2026.
