Maia Mellier is an Irish multidisciplinary artist, designer and author working across painting, print, video, sound, creative coding and textile design from her studio in County Wicklow.,Her work explores the human experience through abstract, symbolic imagery built around themes of introspection, personal growth and connection to nature.,
Working as a designer, Mellier repurposes discarded textiles into new pieces as part of a broader circular economy practice, an approach she has described as an alternative to the disposability of fast fashion. She trained in visual art in Ireland and has been profiled by the Design & Crafts Council Ireland,,which quoted her advice to “stay true to your vision, be authentic, and get very clear about why you do what you do.”
Her fine art print Stonework draws on Ireland's dry stone walls as a metaphor for the way a life's moments of joy and hardship come together into a whole. Her print Incubation uses radiating, biomorphic circular forms likened to frog spawn to depict the germination of new ideas. She also created The Dreaming Pool Oracle, a deck of forty-nine illustrated oracle cards paired with a guidebook, designed as a symbolic tool for reflection and intuition. In September 2022 she released the video work Map on the Tezos platform Versum, pairing an ocean-wave soundtrack with affirmations intended to promote relaxation and reflection. She described the piece as meant to “relax you and carry you with it”.She was named a finalist in the second edition of the Claire AI Contest, an AI-art competition.
