lunarean is the pseudonym of a generative artist based in London who writes code in p5.js and GLSL shaders, aiming for simple, generalizable logic that produces intricate and unexpected outputs.A software developer by trade, lunarean discovered generative art through the work of Jared Tarbell and counts Anders Hoff, Tyler Hobbs, and William Mapan among favorite artists.lunarean is known for generative collections released on the fxhash platform.
Solace (2022), lunarean's early series, grew from a sketch made during Genuary, an annual event that assigns artists a daily prompt for a generative work. The piece responded to the prompt “sand” and became an algorithm that draws hundreds of thousands of points into a probability distribution modeled on the shape of dunes. Solace minted on fxhash for 12 Tezos, and its floor price later passed 1,000 Tezos, with total trading volume exceeding 55,000 Tezos. Alongside Solace, lunarean released the smaller, 32-piece City in the Wind. Also in 2022, lunarean contributed BRIDGE #54 to BRIDGE, a collaborative fxhash project started by Camille Roux in which more than twenty-five generative artists worked from a shared code repository.,Of the project, lunarean said “I really enjoyed being part of something bigger” and called it an honor to take part in a community collaboration.
lunarean released Heat Death in 2022 as part of an fxhash interactive minting event, The Ever-Evolving World of Art, held at Art Basel Hong Kong. The 880-piece series was coded in p5.js and left unmodified after release, making its code public.Later that year, lunarean and dmarchi co-created Disjoint and Disoriented, minted on fxhash through a Dutch auction. In 2022, lunarean also made Element, a series of pixelated mosaics inspired by Hiroshi Kawano, described as one of the pioneers of generative art, that combines rectangles placed inside a grid with a Markov-chain process, then adds hand-drawn textures and noise.Element was released as part of Cure³ 2023, a selling exhibition organized by Artwise Curators with Cure Parkinson's, Bonhams, and fxhash to raise funds for Parkinson's research, alongside works by generative artists including Anna Carreras, Anna Lucia, and Iskra Velitchkova.,lunarean called it “an honor to be invited to take part in Cure³ alongside such talented artists”.
