Bio
Luis Ponce is a Mexican media artist based in Montreal who makes vividly oversaturated gifs and films built from impossible, spiraling perspectives. He has named M.C. Escher as a direct influence on this perspective-bending style. In his own words, his work draws on “cosmogonic myths, posthumanism, the human mind, perception of light and everyday experiences”.
Ponce trained in graphic design and video post-production, and studied at traditional art workshops at the Old Academy of San Carlos in Mexico City. Earlier in his career he painted commissioned skatepark and mosaic murals, including the Templo Mayor Skatepark mural in Mexico City in 2014 and a mural at the Gilbert Lindsay Skatepark in Los Angeles.
