Look Highward is a UK-based artist who works with artificial intelligence and machine learning to make mega-resolution, deep-zoomable images. His practice embraces glitches and imperfection as beautiful expressions of creativity, finding beauty in the unexpected rather than flawless images. He came to art as an early collector in the digital art space before minting his own work.
He holds a degree in philosophy and worked as a writer, editor, and tech writer in the blockchain industry before turning to AI art. His self-taught education in AI began during the first COVID lockdown in the UK in 2020. He started with text generation in language models such as GPT-2, training them on the style of past poets. He later moved to a local setup using open-source tools such as Advadnoun's Big Sleep notebook, developing the workflow he used for Possibility Spaces over roughly seven months. His composite collage style developed out of a collaboration with a sculptor, crafting large AI-generated collages to be incorporated into physical statues.
