loackme is a French generative artist based in Amsterdam whose monochrome, geometric practice combines dithering algorithms with animated loops. After completing a PhD in Statistics and working as a researcher, he left academia in 2018 to pursue digital art and graphic design. A self-described “dither enthusiast”, he uses dithering algorithms to approximate a wide range of colours or greys from a limited palette.
His piece Limbo, made for “The Pixel Generation” at Unit London in 2023, renders its scene at 160 by 144 pixels as a tribute to the Game Boy and depicts the liminal state a player enters after a Game Over screen, before trying again. In 2024 he collaborated with Kerim Safa on a generative pixel art release on Verse. That year his work was also selected as a finalist in the “CONTACT ATTEMPT” open call organised by the Foundation Herbert W. Franke to mark the 50th anniversary of the Arecibo message, shown at the Hamburg and Bochum planetariums.
