L'Inquisiteur, the name used by the French photographer and digital artist Julien Rapallini, works from Oyonnax, in the Jura mountains of France. He has practiced photography since 2005, mostly with a Fuji X100 camera, moving from street photography toward more personal and sometimes surreal digital art.
Between 2016 and 2019 he made The People / Les Gens, street photographs taken in France that he describes as turning the people photographed into “statues frozen in time” within their urban surroundings. From 2017 to 2020 he photographed Empreinte(s), images of traces left by civilization in France, such as concrete, scrap metal and tar. In 2022 he made Monsters, a short photographic series shot over a single summer afternoon. On the digital side, he turns what he calls sometimes bizarre or disturbing thoughts into drawings and paintings for the series Capharnaüm, and reworks mythological imagery using hand drawing with a mouse in μυθολογία.
