LIA

Bio

LIA is a Vienna-based Austrian artist who has worked continuously in software and net art since 1995, one of the field's early pioneers. Working primarily in code, she writes formal structures that generate real-time, minimalist compositions of form, movement and colour, treating the process as a dialogue between her intent and the machine's interpretation.

Her first major body of work, TURUX (1997), grew out of a collaboration and became one of the earliest examples of interactive generative art on the web. It won a Design Austria award in 1998 and was later shown at the Künstlerhaus Wien in 2000 and the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2003. Its follow-up, re-move.org (1999-2003), moved into more intuitive, solo experimentation, releasing ten interactive pieces with no instructions for the viewer to discover.
