Solaas learned to program at around age eleven or twelve, during the era of the Commodore 64 and BASIC. He then stepped away from computing for years, returning in the early 2000s to teach himself again by studying the open-source Flash files shared online by pioneers such as Jared Tarbell.² He soon moved on to Processing and found a community of artists working with generative systems,² while separately studying philosophy at the Universidad de Buenos Aires.³

Solaas describes his process as a dialogue between himself and the computer: “I start moving in a certain direction, but I never know where am I going to end up... I like to think of it as a creative collaboration between a human and a non-human agent”.³ Early works such as Migrations, which combined text from Don Quixote with BBC news headlines into an evolving drawing, and Poemador, an interactive piece that shifts unpredictably in response to a visitor's input, explored this same back-and-forth between rule and outcome.^4,5

He has taught at the intersection of art, technology, and philosophy, as a professor in the Master in Electronic Arts program at the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero in Buenos Aires⁶ and in the graduate interactive design program at the Universidad de Buenos Aires.¹ His work has received the IBM Media Art Award in Germany and the Premio Mamba–Fundación Telefónica in Argentina, along with production grants from Medialab Prado in Spain and the Fondo Nacional de las Artes in Argentina.¹ He began releasing generative work on fxhash in 2022 with The Likeness of a Flower, followed in 2023 by Before the storm, part of a collection tied to the Non Fungible Conference in Lisbon.^7,8 In 2023 he was also selected for the Buenos Aires Collection by Bright Moments, presenting the series Delirium Blooms.^1,2
