Kyle Flemmer is a writer, publisher, and digital media artist whose multidisciplinary work explores the intersections of poetry, code, and visual design. Drawing on traditions of concrete and conceptual art, he examines how digital systems shape human expression and artistic possibility, working from Calgary in Treaty 7 territory.
In 2014 he founded The Blasted Tree Publishing Co., an experimental small press that has published nearly two hundred writers and artists working in innovative literary, visual, and hybrid forms.His curatorial and editorial work has included projects with the League of Canadian Poets, the Writers' Guild of Alberta, and Art on Tezos, and he served as managing editor of filling Station magazine.,His book-length works include Barcode Poetry, a 101-part sequence of typewritten visual poems composed on a 1940 Remington Rand typewriter that mimics barcodes to explore the relationship between art and commerce, published by The Blasted Tree in 2021.Supergiants, which uses the technical language of engineering and astrophysics to consider space exploration, followed from Wolsak & Wynn in 2025.,His book The Wiki of Babel draws on Wikipedia, wikiracing, collage, erasure, and substitution to generate its poems.
Flemmer also makes digital art released on the Tezos blockchain, including Microcosmos, a pixel art tileset depicting real astronomical phenomena and historic moments in space exploration that is permanently inscribed on chain through a custom smart contract.He created TzAR: Pixel Art Anthology, a book featuring more than fifty pixel artists from the Tezos art community.His series 𝘥[S T I L L] isolates still frames from corrupted PlayStation console emulations. It grew out of an earlier collection of glitch GIFs, F A I L S T A T E.His work has been shown in the exhibition “Art on Tezos: Berlin 2025”.
