kusakari is a generative artist based in Tokyo who works in code, sharing sketches through OpenProcessing and releasing generative collections on fxhash. Their sketches include soft body animations of squishy, bendy rectangles and bands that deform under simulated physics while retaining their overall shape.
The effect comes from a particle-spring mesh in which tightly packed internal particles repel each other, a configuration kusakari documented openly through an ongoing series of posts on social media. In the artist's own description, the piece Twilight “blends the sense of reality and unreality together, while creating a nostalgic atmosphere, similar to the blurring effect of wide-aperture photography”. The resulting abstractions take forms such as “planets floating in space, luminous creatures in deep sea, or a hole leading to another world in a dream”.
