Kubti The Creator, known simply as Kubti, is a multidisciplinary digital artist who explores raw emotion through imagery of light, darkness and survival.,The son of Nigerian parents who grew up in Libya, he began making art, teaching himself Blender, Photoshop and Procreate after a period of emotional exhaustion following the wars he lived through.
As a young man he survived the 2011 Libyan civil war, in which more than six of his friends were killed, and later the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria, once hiding for five hours in a stranger's home while militants searched the streets outside. Years later, an abstract painting he came across on social media prompted him to start teaching himself to create; “I noticed there's so much power in creation”, he has said of that moment, and he went on to sell his first NFTs, an edition of five, on Tezos.
He builds his figures in Blender, adds flowing strands and textures in Procreate, and finishes with noise in Photoshop and lighting in Lightroom. The strands flowing from his figures represent string theory and stand for connection between people, an idea he arrived at after watching The Big Bang Theory. After a partial stroke, he restructured his approach to art and community involvement around protecting his health, stepping away from conflict in NFT spaces.
Kubti later became active in the 6529 community, creating a sculptural figure made of stone, with chains rising from an ocean and a tree growing from its back, holding a ledger in its hands to represent his experience of being denied access to banking as a child in Libya. He created a follow-up piece with the same stone figure, its tree fully grown and a child standing in its shade, reflecting his hope that his own children will be spared what he went through.
