Kristopher Shinn is a photographer and storyteller who was born in San Francisco and is based in Seattle, working primarily on film.,Shinn's narrative-based images convey nostalgia and calm, often drawn from journeys across the Puget Sound and further afield, shot on 35mm and medium format cameras.
Shinn grew up in the Bay Area of California pursuing music and sports before finding photography through a rediscovered camera that had belonged to Shinn's father.Shinn released work both physically and digitally, including the film series By Way of Water, documenting journeys on the ferries around Seattle, and Outer.,Shinn collaborated with other photographers including Batzdu, Postwook, and Efdot on joint releases.
Glaumbær II photographs the turf huts of Glaumbær, Iceland, shot on a Mamiya 7 camera with Kodak Portra 400 film. Shinn recalled turning to take in the scenery afterward, describing a moment that “truly felt like I was living in a painting”.For Mom, With Love draws on memories of visiting Cannon Beach, Oregon, with family, and the bond formed with Shinn's mother following the death of Shinn's father.Later work extended this documentary approach to travel, including atmospheric series shot in Dublin, Ireland, and the edition Looking Forward, drawn from a trip to Japan.
