Kerim Safa & loackme is a collaboration between Kerim Safa, a Netherlands-based artist and musician who works with pixels and sound,,and loackme (Loïc Schwaller),a French generative artist based in Amsterdam known for monochrome, geometric designs and dithering algorithms.Together they created VISTA, a generative artwork made in 2024 for the “Tamagotchi” show at Nguyen Wahed Gallery in New York that reimagines the visual language of early video games.,
The piece constructs a procedurally generated, pixelated world in which lifeforms emerge through a modified Game of Life cellular automaton, producing behaviors that shift across different regions of the map. Viewers can navigate the environment but cannot alter it, and the work was shown on a mobile phone rather than a large screen to echo the handheld, intimate scale of a Tamagotchi. It was exhibited alongside new work by qubibi and OMGiDRAWEDit in a show exploring nostalgia for the once-common virtual pet and its relevance to contemporary digital life.
