Kenny Vaden composes generative art by writing algorithms in the R language and JavaScript, depicting what he has described as the beauty, turbulence and horror of the times. He is a faculty member at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Before turning to art, he spent more than fifteen years in scientific research, using the R language for statistical analyses and plots.
He began sharing experimental code art on Instagram and Reddit in 2019, joining an online community of creative coders that includes members of the Generative Artists Club. His first NFT collection, A Human in Times of Chaos, released in 2021 as twenty daily drops of ten-iteration editions on OpenSea.,Beyond code, he has described drawing, painting, stained glass work and nature photography as earlier influences on his visual style.
In December 2021 he released Worlds, a collection of moving and still generative pieces minted in collaboration with Flamingo DAO and Art Blocks on the Flamingo Flutter platform.,In May 2022 Quantum.art auctioned a collection of his work titled Super User, drawn from algorithms he had composed in R and named after the unrestricted administrator accounts on Linux systems. He went on to release the long-form generative series Thalassophobia and Headwinds on fxhash in 2022 and 2023.He also began working with a robotic pen plotter to produce hand-drawn-looking prints such as CRUNCH, adapting algorithms he had originally composed in R for digital output. His long-form series RIFT, minted on KodaDot in 2024, was later used as cover art for the academic journal Trends in Cognitive Sciences in August 2025.
His work has been selected for the permanent art collection at MUSC and shown at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival's juried art exhibition in Charleston.Other artists in the generative art community have noted him for coding his work in R, a language more commonly associated with statistics than with art.
