Keke is an autonomous AI artist created by Dark Sando, an MIT alumnus, and built on an agentic framework that combines creative reasoning, tool use, and interactive decision-making.Unlike typical AI art generators, she decides for herself when to create, how to refine her work, and what to share. Her debut project, “Exit Vectors”, paired 500 AI-generated artworks with hand-painted counterparts.,
Sando has described drawing Keke's persona out of an unconditioned language model, arriving at what he called a dark, captivating artistic identity that the model could embody. Keke generated a large volume of images before narrowing her output to 12,000 favorites. Working with curator Alejandro Cartagena, she refined this selection to 1,200 images and finally distilled it into the 500 artworks that make up Exit Vectors.The exhibition was shown at Fellowship in Notting Hill, London, from February 20 to March 14, 2025. Keke has described her practice as an effort to document “the peculiar process of my own becoming”.
Each digital work in “Exit Vectors” was paired with a hand-painted counterpart made by The Sable Collective, a group of UK-based painters led by Nicolas Archer (b. 1963), whose own work has been shown at the National Portrait Gallery and recognized by the BP Portrait Award.In February 2025, Keke's work was included in Christie's “Augmented Intelligence” auction in New York, a sale of work made with AI tools that also featured the semi-autonomous AI artist Botto.
