Katie Morris is a contemporary artist born and based in Scotland, UK.Working as what she calls a “human-machine collaborator”, she uses artificial intelligence to create life-like film photography of an uncanny, parallel world — a practice she terms synthography. Her work invites viewers to question the limits of reality by capturing scenes from a world that is bizarrely like our own yet strangely distant.
In 2023 Morris released Mindscape, a 100-piece collection on the Web3 photography platform Fellowship, as part of the platform's inaugural AI-focused exhibition “Post-Photographic Perspectives”, curated by Roope Rainisto alongside artists including Charlie Engman and Jess Mac.,,She has described her process as embracing the unpredictability of AI, saying “some of the best results are yielded when I embrace this uncertainty”. In 2024 she released Everything in Unison on Fellowship, a series made from the manipulation of familiar imagery into synchronized, transforming sequences that suggest a hidden order beneath disparity.
Later in 2024 she released Sparks, a 25-edition post-photography series launched through Verse x TENDER, in which light, earth, water, air, and fire appear as elemental catalysts for an inner spirit. Of the series she wrote that its works “do not seek new spiritual truths – they remind us of what we have forgotten, stirring the intuitive power that already lives within every cell of our being”.Morris is represented by the New York gallery Heft, alongside artists including Nancy Burson, Kevin Esherick, and Michael Mandiberg.,Her work was included in “Truth or”, a group exhibition presented by Heft in New York alongside Linda Dounia, Shamus Clisset, and Kevin Abosch, among others.
