Katherina Jesek (b. 1999), known as Kate the Cursed, is a media artist based in New York whose work uses outdated display technology, including CRT monitors and oscilloscopes, and draws on cyberpunk aesthetics.,,She has published work online under the name Kate the Cursed since August 2019, and began selling cryptoart in late 2020.,
Jesek's early work explored the glow of vintage cathode-ray equipment, including gifs made from vector graphics displayed on a dual-trace oscilloscope and text rendered on a 1982 amber CRT computer monitor.In the Electro Hummingbird series (2020), her first exploration of CRT textures, she began developing a light-painting technique that she then applied fully in Radiation Sickness (2020), capturing fractal transformations and circuit-bent video with the electron beam of a 27-inch Sony Trinitron television. One of the Electro Hummingbird pieces became her first artwork minted on a blockchain, released on Rarible. She continued working with analog CRT footage from February 2021 in VHSpunk Visions, a series of animated glitch art cards that keep the CRT border as part of each piece.
Jesek's work has been shown in Los Angeles during Frieze week with Vertical Cryptoart, in a guerrilla exhibition at Miami Art Week with Tara Digital Collective, and in a pop-up street-gallery window in Prague.,In June 2022 her piece Identity Creation Matrix appeared in the group exhibition “SuperTrans” at SuperRare's gallery in Soho, curated by Laurel Charleston, and was later shown in Times Square at Nasdaq.In April 2023 her self-portrait psychic///warfare.GIF was auctioned as part of Sotheby's relaunched “Glitch: Beyond Binary” sale, curated by Dawnia Darkstone,after the house withdrew and reworked an earlier all-male glitch art lineup.From July to October 2023 her work appeared alongside that of Pastiche Lumumba in “Refreshing the Loop” at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, New York,an installation curated by Regina Harsanyi and supported by GIPHY,in which the two artists took part in curating each other's selections.,
Her work was featured at RGBMTL, a digital art exhibition in Montreal, in August 2024. In her first solo exhibition, “Venus in Vectors”, held from September to December 2025 in Peekskill, New York, at SUNY Westchester's Center for the Digital Arts in collaboration with the KinoSaito Art Center and curated by Megan Meadowlark, she offered seven 1-of-1 prints on archival foil paper in person only, without digital advertising, and five sold for $333 each.
