Karyn Nakamura also known as @frog_spit_simulation on ig, is an artist and engineer from Tokyo, now based in New York. Her work explores the technical infrastructures underlying systems of perception and communication. Trained at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she is a recipient of the Schnitzer Prize, Wiesner Award, was a 2024 Steve Jobs Archive Fellow, and been included on the DAZED 100. Her work has been exhibited internationally at SHOWStudio, Singapore International Festival of Arts, mother’s tankstation, Foreign&Domestic, as well as inside an abandoned Frank Gehry designed pub. In parallel, she has conducted research in AI and computer vision with the Human AI Collaboration Lab, SITU Research, was previously part of the Civic Data Design Lab and realizes ambitious technical productions for clients like Google and Audio-Technica.
