Kamau Kamau is a multidisciplinary artist and developer from Nairobi, Kenya, whose pixel-based generative art draws on traditional Kenyan pattern and procedural repetition found in African fabrics.,He discovered generative art through his studies in computer science, merging his two long-standing interests of coding and art.
In the series Askew (2023), made for “The Pixel Generation” at Unit London, recursive lines of varying thickness cut across the canvas in segmented breaks and are rotated to generate what Kamau Kamau calls “organized chaos”. “The works I'm presenting are inspired by the procedural repetition that is quite common to a lot of African fabrics”, he has said of the series.Askew III appeared in the exhibition, which brought together 14 pixel and generative artists at Unit London in collaboration with Right Click Save.,
Kamau Kamau has collaborated with developer Ian Wright on generative art NFTs since 2021, alongside solo projects released on fx(hash), Objkt, and OpenSea. His inspirations range from dreams and people to everyday designs and nature.
