Kamand Kavand (Iranian, b. 1991) is a self-taught abstract painter and NFT artist whose colorful, expressionistic work has entered collections worldwide. She works from a studio in Tehran, having moved to painting after studying theater directing and costume design at university. She has described abstract painting as offering an “unlimited mind” unbound by literal depiction, a philosophy reflected in her piece Unlimited Mind.
Kavand began releasing NFTs around 2021, drawn by what she called “its universality”, the ability to connect with people worldwide and work independently. Her NFT pieces extend her physical acrylic paintings with 3D animation and original music, often composed by her husband, a sound designer and theater composer. After an early collection drew around 20 sales in a month, her account was banned from OpenSea, which she has linked to her Iranian nationality and which forced her to restart.
Since 2018 she has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, including “The Last Chapter” at Ehsan Art Gallery in Tehran in 2019, presented with the LAMAKETA Cultural Foundation of Italy. As a member of the AIA Association she has exhibited in France, including shows at the Royal Hall Madeleine and FIAP in Paris in 2023.Her piece The vast canvas of the unknown was selected for a 20-artist open call curated by Unknown and Sendrock, shown outdoors in Ghent, Belgium, and at Artcrush Gallery in Ixelles as part of a Tezos collaboration during EthCC.Her paintings have been described as work that does not depict the world but conveys “what it feels like to move through it”.
