Kaeli VanFossen (American, b. 1979) is a multidisciplinary visual artist working across traditional painting, digital collage, and AI-assisted art.,Based in San Diego, California, she paints in acrylic on canvas, blending abstraction, figuration, and floral and coastal motifs, and also runs the design studio So Bizie Studios.,
She came to art after a career in tech-adjacent creative work, including graphic design and photo retouching, and first began building compositions digitally in Photoshop before working them in paint. Her process starts by generating AI-created reference elements, which she collages and refines digitally before translating the composition to acrylic on canvas, using slow-drying and airbrush mediums to blend color.
In 2024 she contributed the one-of-one piece A Muse in Wonderland to “AI Surrealism”, a show of 100 AI-assisted artists staged by Superchief Gallery at the Oculus in the World Trade Center, New York. The exhibition was curated by Anna Dart and Roger Haus for Exquisite Workers, and mirrored online in the Superchief AI Surrealism World on the NFT marketplace Foundation. Her piece drew color inspiration from the Surrealist painter Eileen Agar.
In December 2023 she had a solo drop, “Tome of Aurums: The Abstractia Arcanum”, with Mirage Gallery, including a virtual gallery presentation in Second Life. In April 2024 she was named to the “100 Artists To Watch” list published by SNAP Collective, selected by a curatorial jury drawn from MoMA, artnet, and Christie's. That year she was also a guest presenter for L'Oréal Professionnel's ASA '24 event with HUG in Los Angeles, and exhibited in the “Hive Mind” group show at Colonna Contemporary Gallery in November.
