Justin Maller is an Australian digital artist whose geometric, illustrative work bridges pop culture and the avant garde, made for clients including Nike, Verizon and the Grammys.,He began making digital art in 1998, found an early community on deviantART, and in 2002 founded the international collective Depthcore.
Depthcore brought together artists from many countries under a shared aesthetic, publishing collective chapters of work online.The digital artist neurocolor has said that discovering Depthcore in 2004 was what drew them to digital fine art.In 2013, Maller began Facets, a year-long project in which he made and posted one geometric piece every day, developing the geometric style associated with his later work.,He returned to the project in 2022, creating another 365 pieces released on the blockchain through Manifold, later shown at venues including The Crypt Gallery and Beeple Studios.
In 2018, Maller moved to Los Angeles to become chief creative officer of DeviantArt, the community site where he had been an early volunteer staff member since 2001.At DeviantArt he oversaw Eclipse, a redesign of the platform's look and product suite, following the site's acquisition by Wix.,Maller returned full time to his own art in 2021, releasing the collections The Second Storm, In Waves and Shrines, and collaborating with the basketball player Shaquille O'Neal on Eras of Dominance, O'Neal's debut Web3 release.
