juanrlag is an audiovisual artist and 2D animator who produces animation in both traditional and digital forms, frequently composing the sound design for the same productions. Working under this handle, Juan R. Lage studied Audiovisual Arts at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata and is based in La Plata, Argentina.
Commissions have included 2D animation for a Spotify Tirade campaign spot produced through the studio Blinkink, and for a Spotify Meu Spotify campaign in Brazil produced through Soko, along with an animated short for Giphy's official website. For the musician Bizarrap, juanrlag produced three animated videos and additional animated assets for a European tour. As a jury member for the Thyssen-Bornemitza Museum's VersionaThyssen contest, juanrlag created an animation responding to Edgar Degas's painting The Ballerina, which was shown together with the original work at the contest's award ceremony at the museum.
Outside of commissioned work, juanrlag directed and wrote the 2016 fiction feature film El Ruso Muere and co-directed the 2017 videopoem Plumiferos, which received awards and entered the audiovisual collection of the Kirchner Cultural Center in Buenos Aires. juanrlag also taught film editing for five years at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata and in private classes.
