Jos Vromans (Dutch, b. 1987) makes handcoded algorithmic art, writing his own software from scratch to generate images that would be impossible to draw by hand.,Trained in Applied Mathematics, he worked as a backend web developer before leaving in 2018 to make art full time. After the Fidenza collection released on Art Blocks in 2021, he learned JavaScript and began making browser based generative art.
In Triangle Subdivisions (2021), a study of geometric subdivisions released on fxhash, just 638 bytes of JavaScript generate all 638 unique variations in the collection.Attraction, published on Art Blocks in December 2021, comprises 444 variations generated from 3,327 bytes of code uploaded to the Ethereum blockchain.Incircles, released on Art Blocks Studio in 2024, divides the plane into triangles and draws 262,136 inscribed circles per output, continuing his earlier study of Triangle Subdivisions.He has also developed a technique that embeds an artwork's generating source code directly into the pixel data of its output PNG file.,This makes each image self-contained, able to reproduce the code that made it even without separate records.
In 2021 he minted The Eye on Hic et Nunc, the Tezos based platform later continued as Teia, as his first NFT.Freedom (2022) was shown at the Lobkowicz Palace in Prague Castle as part of the NFCastle exhibition. It sets the text of Article 7 of the Dutch constitution, on freedom of speech, into a grid of colored squares that rearranges whenever the browser window is resized.Two of his pieces, Variation on Root Two Flower and The Root Two Tunnel, were exhibited at the 2019 Bridges Mathematical Art Exhibition in Linz, Austria.,In 2022, Euclides magazine published an article on his symmetrical triangle subdivisions together with its cover image.
