Jonas Lund (Swedish, b. 1984) is a conceptual artist whose paintings, installations, and participatory systems use algorithms and rule-based structures to interrogate authorship, participation, and the mechanisms of the art world.,In 2013 his exhibition “The Fear Of Missing Out” generated artworks from art-world big data, an early example of the algorithm-driven approach that runs through his later work.,
Lund earned a BFA at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 2009 and an MA at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam in 2013, and was an Eyebeam resident in New York in 2012.In 2018 he launched the Jonas Lund Token, a cryptocurrency that turns collectors into shareholders with voting power over his practice. He has described its purpose as “to distribute agency in my practice”, with token holders co-opted into renegotiating how decisions are made and value is produced.
MVP (Most Valuable Painting) (2022) comprises 512 evolving digital paintings that put abstract painting into dialogue with digital art and treat the canvas as an evolving system. For it he received the Digital Arts Prize from the Fondation Etrillard and the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2025.In 2023 he released Race Condition, a generative racing game, as an Art Blocks collection, and that same year his work appeared in the Centre Pompidou's “NFT: Poetics of the Immaterial, from Certificates to Blockchain”.,
In 2026 he opened “Performance Review” at OFFICE IMPART in Berlin, turning the gallery into a production system governed by an autonomous AI agent called AGENT. AGENT commissioned and evaluated paintings made by human assistants, scoring each one on metrics such as market viability and institutional resonance.
