John Provencher (b. 1991) is an independent artist, graphic designer and educator based in Brooklyn, New York, whose practice explores the generative nature of software as a medium for work shown both online and offline.,Drawing on his graphic design background, he turns basic elements of the web, such as pixel grids and interface components, into dynamic visual systems through code, often extending them into physical screen prints.
Alongside his own art, Provencher has worked as a designer for clients including Google, A24, Coinbase, Nike, Prada and The New York Times. In 2022 he joined the 2022-23 Art and Code cohort at New INC, the New Museum's incubator for technology-based creative practice. For the cohort's 2023 showcase at Dunkunsthalle, a former Dunkin' Donuts turned art space in New York, he presented HAHA, a program for a thermal receipt printer that turns smart contract transactions into an accumulating, generative on-chain artwork installed in physical space.,
His series Dungeoneer, which reworks the logic of video games into generative worldbuilding, was included in the 2025 group exhibition “Console Spirituality” on Feral File, curated by LAN Party alongside Emi Kusano, Sabato Visconti and Keiken & Gabriel Massan. He has also released limited-edition generative screensavers, including new-sun.saver and orbit.saver, in an edition of 100 through left.gallery, and his collections Maps, over-time and Cage circulate as editions on the platform Verse.,
