Joelle LB is a French Canadian multidisciplinary artist based in Montreal, working across photography and fibres.,She began making art as a teenager, shooting film photography and archiving Montreal's underground rave scene starting in 1998, before her practice shifted toward nature photography and, later, natural dyeing and textiles.
Her current practice took shape after she studied plant medicine, which led her to foraging on Vancouver Island and in the Canadian Rockies before she returned to Montreal. That close attention to natural surfaces, patterns and textures fed into her nature photography, and later into natural dyeing, pigment extraction and material-based work on textiles and paper. She has also studied Fibres and Material Practices at Concordia University, extending her practice into wood and metal framing. She held her first solo exhibition, “Into the Void”, at 0xSociety during the LUMEN Festival in Montreal in 2023, and her work has since been shown at venues including the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, RGBMTL, ArtVerse Paris and SCOPE Art Show Miami.
Before turning to art full time, she worked as a financial advisor and took up trading after a car accident. She entered the NFT community in July 2021, having first been wary of its environmental impact, and has sold work through platforms including SuperRare. She also runs an AI-focused project under the name Tove Skargard.,
