Jimmy Herdberg, who creates under the name JMY, is a generative artist based in Gothenburg, Sweden, whose work explores the connections between math, music, art and nature through code. He began coding at twelve and in 2001 founded the creative studio KOKOKAKA, producing digital work for brands including Louis Vuitton, Burberry and Prada. In 2022 he started the art lab KOAMI, aiming to unite traditional and digital art.
In 2023 Herdberg released Mycelia on Art Blocks, an algorithmic study of mycelium growth in which virtual hyphae absorb nutrients, move, and divide much as fungal networks do in nature.In 2025 he released Strings on Art Blocks, a generative sound and visual collection of a thousand artworks. Each piece behaves like a plucked string, its pitch and vibration set by a grid of strings spanning up to 15 by 15, with sounds built from sine, triangle, square and sawtooth waves.
In November 2025 Herdberg unveiled The Clockwork, a sound and light installation in Kungsparken park in Gothenburg that marks each hour and, between sunset and midnight, invites visitors to connect with it and take part. The piece, also known as Klockspelet, was made with the artist Jens Thoms Ivarsson and the city's Stadsmiljöförvaltningen Göteborg, alongside the Kokokaka team.
In 2024he made Magna, the Spirit of Truth with Anna Lebar Sanders of KOAMI for the exhibition “Moving Frontiers”.The digital work was paired with a physical magnetite egg sculpture, made by Arne Bergh and Jens Thoms Ivarsson of the floating gallery POIKKI.That same year Herdberg collaborated with the poet Lina Ekdahl on Omkväde, a generative art and poetry book released at the Gothenburg Book Fair. Ekdahl wrote fifty texts and Herdberg coded fifty images from a single algorithm, pairing them around the theme of circular, nonlinear time.
