Jason Gringler is an artist who treats the debris of his own studio practice as material and subject, transforming plexiglass shards, rusty metal, and resin sculptures left over from failed attempts into finished works. His approach is almost alchemical, revalorizing industrial decay and technological obsolescence as core components of his process rather than mere byproducts.
In his 2024 exhibition “Studio” at Lo Brutto Stahl in Paris, Gringler presented his workspace as what he calls a “philosophical space”, where labor, both physical and intellectual, becomes an existential investment and energy itself is the primary currency. The show's text addresses the historical view of artists as martyrs, a notion Gringler both acknowledges and resists, instead treating each failure as one node in an ongoing, iterative practice.
