Jaime Derringer (b. 1978) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans hand weaving, digital collage and AI-assisted image-making to explore the intersections of technology, the body and the mind. She holds a BA from Temple University, and her practice moves between traditional craft, generative software and product design.,,
Her Glitch Weavings use the traditionally feminine craft of weaving to reframe perimenopause, comparing its bodily changes to a computer system glitching and reclaiming them as a system upgrade rather than a malfunction, an idea she traces to Legacy Russell's book Glitch Feminism.,Her Sandworms and sketchbook drawings take a rawer, tangled approach to mental health, anxiety and chronic illness. In her Soft Math paintings she trains AI on fractals generated from a 1990s PC program and her own geometric drawings, then runs the resulting images through further applications to produce watercolor-like abstractions across four sub-series, including Soft Math: Euclidean Landscapes and Soft Math: Sacred Spaces. Her broader Chromesthesia series digitally deconstructs drawings, AI-generated imagery and fractal elements through repeated app and software passes, manipulated in real time with a MIDI controller.Chromesthesia: Ascend, the version she released as Tonic's inaugural series, further reconstructs the results by turning the controller's knobs to distort each image, works she describes as “like a phoenix, completely destroyed, but then reborn and ascendant as something new”.,
Beyond her own art, Derringer founded the design blog Design Milkand has designed textiles and rugs, including a fabric, wallpaper and pillow collection made with Eskayel designer Shanan Campanaro and a rug collection for Woven Concepts. She also co-founded Trame, a Paris studio with Ismail Tazi and Adnane Tazi that translates generative algorithms into Venetian glass mirrors, stained glass sculptures, tapestries and handwoven café chairs made with craftspeople in Aubusson, Chartres and Venice.,Trame has built its collections on Art Blocks Engine since 2022, collaborating with generative artists including Alexis André and Linda Dounia, and was acquired by Art Blocks in 2025.
