Jack Vanzet is a Melbourne-based multidisciplinary artist working across painting, graphic design and music production.,He paints thick, swirling fields of pigment and produces electronic music under the name Thrupence.,,His paintings and album artwork have been commissioned by musicians including Chet Faker and Vance Joy, and his design and audio work by brands such as Porsche.,
Early in his career, at the age of 22, Vanzet was already designing album covers and other creative work for clients including Bombay Sapphire and Men's Health, alongside making music as Thrupence. In 2015 his cover art for the Icelandic producer Anton Kaldal Ágústsson, recording as Tonik Ensemble, came about after Ágústsson discovered Vanzet's paintings through his Thrupence music. His paintings have been described as visual landscapes built from “thick brushstrokes and swirls of pigment”, appearing at times as colourful oceans and at others as magnified aspects of exotic lands or planets.
Vanzet later created the visual branding for RÜFÜS DU SOL's platinum-selling album Bloom and the campaign artwork for Hayden James's album Lifted, built around the symmetry of a single arrow icon. During the COVID-19 lockdowns he collaborated with classical pianist Josh Hooke on the album Composites, exchanging short piano sketches to build nine original compositions, each paired with its own artwork. His series Abstract gathers floating, colour-rich streaks that replicate movements and forms found in nature, rendered with a dreamy, three-dimensional-like quality. In an independent research project titled Cordis, he used heart-rate data as a creative material, letting a person's pulse trigger piano notes and shift the colour and movement of an accompanying visual system.
