Jack Kaido is a pseudonymous British artist who makes digital abstract paintings on Procreate, building up layers from quick sketches into compositions that mix web browsers, app interfaces, glitches and pixelation with references to art history. He calls this visual language “tabstraction”, a term for the collage of digital and painterly influences, from prehistoric cave art to Willem de Kooning, that runs through his work.
Kaido first trained in physical oil painting before discovering digital abstraction, downloading Photoshop and Procreate to make his first digital works. After making digital abstracts for about two years he discovered NFTs and began minting his work. A turning point came with his Errors works, when he moved away from imitating physical painting and leaned into abstraction built from native digital elements.
