Iuri Kothe (Brazilian, b. 1980) is a collage artist and photographer whose work deconstructs and reassembles architectural forms, particularly stairways, to create the illusion of three-dimensional space within a two-dimensional, abstract composition. His graphic style, marked by unions of line and plane and paradoxical perspectives, has drawn comparisons to the work of the printmaker M.C. Escher.
Kothe was born in São Paulo in 1980 and is based in Brasília, Brazil. He trained as an electrical engineer, earning a bachelor's degree from the Universidade de Brasília in 1998 and a master's degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2003. He has worked as a product manager for a software development firm, translating real-world needs into software for a general audience. As Kothe has put it, “My job is to make something complex, concise before delivering into the world.”
