Kothe was born in São Paulo in 1980 and is based in Brasília, Brazil.^1,2 He trained as an electrical engineer, earning a bachelor's degree from the Universidade de Brasília in 1998 and a master's degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 2003.² He has worked as a product manager for a software development firm, translating real-world needs into software for a general audience. As Kothe has put it, “My job is to make something complex, concise before delivering into the world.”¹

He began making analog collages in 2003, sourcing material from magazines such as National Geographic. Stairways became a recurring motif in this early work, providing him a way to join lines and planes into new, if impossible, ascents. Since 2016 he has worked primarily in digital media, sourcing high-resolution, openly licensed photography from Unsplash so that his collages can be displayed at multiple scales without loss of quality. His collages have appeared in group exhibitions dedicated to the medium in Italy, Germany, Canada and Greece.¹
