Anders Hoff, who works under the name inconvergent, is a Norwegian generative artist who writes agent-based algorithms that mimic the growth patterns of natural forms such as flower petals or branching networks. He starts from a highly organized structure and gradually disrupts it, searching for results that sit between order and chaos.
Hoff discovered generative art at 16 after finding Complexification, a site of agent-based animations by Jared Tarbell, and began copying and then adapting its algorithms. Born in Nannestad, Norway, he studied applied mathematics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, completed a master's degree in numerical mathematics in 2012, and moved to Oslo, where he has worked as a search and information-retrieval consultant.
