Ina Vare is a Latvian glitch and analog video artist working across digital and physical media, active since 2007.She holds a BA and MA in Visual Communication from the Art Academy of Latviaand uses circuit-bending, VHS and other analog video tools to recreate a nostalgic aesthetic of noise, error and glitch.,
She works primarily in the dithered, forever-looping GIF, a technique she uses to create the illusion of more color and tone than the file actually contains. She deliberately pushes her file sizes down to the lowest level possible, working against the trend for high-resolution digital art in order to capture the feel of the analog era.Since joining the CryptoArt community in 2021,she has collaborated with artists including Max Capacity, Dawnia Darkstone and Albertine Meunier,,and has roots in the Glitch and Death Punk schools of CryptoArt.
Her early Tezos work Is HEN down? (2021) was minted on Hic et Nunc, one of the first NFT platforms on that blockchain. In 2023 her piece I AM FIELD OF REEDS was auctioned at Sotheby's New York.Three of her dithered GIF works, I Am Seabed, I Am Sea Ice and I Am Part Of You, were shown together in “The Pixel Generation”, a 2023 exhibition organized by Unit London and Right Click Save.
Beginning in 2024 she developed IT'S A JOURNEY, a video and performance series centered on the recurring image of an axe as a symbol of post-Soviet memory and gendered experience.,A film from the series, IT'S A SHADOW, was selected for a Superchief Gallery screening on a Times Square billboard in July 2024, where the company altered the artwork without her consent by labeling the depicted axe 'private,' prompting a public apology from the gallery. In July 2025 the series became a solo exhibition, “IT'S A JOURNEY”, at L'Avant Galerie Vossen in Paris, curated by Albertine Meunier.,
